Well, this stock looked irresistible at 15-20, but I'm not as anxious to throw some money into it at 40 or so.

You CAN'T short it. You also can't margin it. Sometimes Datek screws up, and lets you do either one or both - if you use Datek, and they let you do this - DON'T. I know people who did this with COOL and had their trades reversed. YOU are responsible for knowing the rules.
