Thanks for the news posts. Intel must see some light with their investment in Micron. Maybe for the systems on a chip idea with dram and cpu on same large chip. I still own WFR but have pretty much agreed with your assessment that it is dead and a loss but not worth selling. Maybe in two years if we survive we will recover. It has happened to me in another company HXL which even went thru Chapter 11 on me but I eventually merged with a double (took 12 years). Oh well better things to think about but I keep WFR bookmarked anyway.

In my opinion next year will be good for semis, but still bad for the equipment makers. I think that so far Y2K problems have shifted MIS spending to software, but that as we get closer to 2000 we will see move spending on PC's as older models are replaced. I think that the semis will be reluctant to buy new equipment, but will increase fab utilization instead. To me that implies an increase in demand for wafers. Note that just as we are seeing some older DRAM fabs shutting down, we are seeing some wafer production facilities closed. Hitachi closed an epitaxial plant recently. This company could find a bottom yet. But for the current time, I am still just watching.
