Irony, my friend, irony. Hypocrisy. Proportionality. What matters and what is small. Neo-puritan obsessions. (And don't worry about the many words. They come from my archives.)

Some of our most "upright" Presidents have been some of our worst disasters. Try Carter. Try Hoover.

Some of our greatest sexual sinners have been some of our greatest leaders. Try Kennedy. Try Johnson (ex Vietnam, but very much plus the civil rights acts, Medicare and Medicaid). Try Martin Leuther King. Try even Franklin Roosevelt.

The thesis of the religious rightist and the legalistic absolutists on this sex lying is absolutely bogus. We know the results of this horrible moral rot on his deepest character. We know what will happen when such a man is subject to the special and uniquely trying pressures of the Presidency, given the deeply matastazing rot at the core of his moral compass. We know the results.

And guess what? They are pretty darn good. He is a good, moderate, centrist leader. A sure hand in trying times. A very quick study. Not flustered under pressure. A excellent consensus builder on key issues such as an equitable way of balancing the budget.

We have found what happens when a philander becomes President, and even does it in office.

And guess what? The results are pretty darn good! It doesn't seem to matter much! (As long as we keep sending sidelong glances to our spouses and letting them know that isn't OUR deal.) He has and is doing a good job. It's the Repubs that are utterly bogged down and doing nothing.

And are they just possibly exploiting this in hopes of a mandate for the religious right agenda of their base. A roll back in abortion rights? Extensive restrictions on the internet? And on and on?
