Hi jim,The Price Performance link which you provided is greatly misleading. It compares a new CPQ server against a DELL server that is a year older. So I am not concerned about that either. The CPQ server is not a better deal than the current DELL server. Try these two:commerce.us.dell.com vs.athome.compaq.com Dell was just under ($2591 vs. $2599 to start, and when configured similarly it came to $2025 vs. $2110). Note that everyone who buys a Compaq and doesn't try their Easy Internet Access is paying $100 extra. (A reverse-Internet tax? ;-) But with that discount, Compaq is less in both cases. The following applies to both Dell and Compaq: why should every computer come with a modem? I've got a cable modem, and all the other computers are wired to it. I just need a network card. And speakers aren't necessary for the firewall machine, it just sits there. Is it that hard to code a "None" option into all their line items? It's not that I don't want to pay for it, it's just that they're wasting inventory adding it in, as it'll never get used. I'd gladly accept a "None" option that didn't reduce the price. More on Compaq's page: doesn't the word "Speakers" describe them enough? Is "Listen to the incredible sounds that your system can make." really necessary? I'm glad Dell has better marketing -- knowing when to shut up is just as important as knowing what to say. And the warrantee; I'll just copy the lowest and highest (which is all Dell offers). Dell: $0 3 year parts / 1 year next business day $99 3 year next business day Compaq: $0 1 year parts / 90 days on-site / 1 year carry-in $199 3 years on-site Dell's initial warrantee is better, and Compaq's 3 year on-site service is $100 more -- and they don't indicate if it's next day! Finally, in preview mode, Dell is in black and Compaq is in red. ;-) Cheers, KenB
