Funny thing, jbe, I brought up the Gore problem elsewhere. I was assured that it was no problem, if Clinton went away all Gore's friends would make sure that his personal choice for V.P. would sail through the Senate. Knowing the history of Clinton nominees of all sorts before the current Senate, if they happen to prove unacceptable to moderate centrist Jesse Helms, I was skeptical on that count. Of course, the Republicans might prefer to have a crippled Democratic administration with an acceptably weak Gore V.P. taking over to having Newt assume power. Newt's 95-96 power play didn't exactly win the G.O.P. a lot of new fans.

Cheers, Dan.
