Interesting! Little stuff like this sometimes gives
you insight to the big picture. Palm Pilot has no
true competition. The closest thing I would think
are NOKIA mobile phone handsets<g>.

MSFT sure is getting reputation for buggy software.
Interesting in that they higher "the smartest" people
out of college. Course, it is difficult o produce
non-buggy software when the program exceeds a million
lines of code....

>>I wonder if there going to update it Thursday? <G><<

Have it point to ASND, FORE, XYLN,.....one of these I
guess.<gg>

BTW...nice day so far for COMS. Kick back and watch
COMS creep upward. I think I could get use to this<gg>

3Com Simplifies Network Operations With Enhancements to Transcend
Traffix Manager for Windows NT - BW, 10:44 a.m. Sep 28, 1998 Eastern

New Web-based Reporting and More Efficient RMON/RMON-2 Data Storage
and Retrieval Deliver Flexible and Cost-Effective Network Management

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1998--
3Com Corporation today announced major enhancements to its
award-winning Transcend(R) Traffix(tm) Manager for
Windows NT application that meet 3Com's goals of
simplifying network operations and delivering improved
network reliability. Transcend Traffix Manager V2.0 for
Windows NT now offers Web-based reporting, more efficient
data storage and retrieval, and the industry's most
comprehensive RMON-2 data collection. These enhancements
let administrators more easily monitor traffic flow, application
usage and end-user activity to identify trouble spots before they
impact application or network quality of service.

Transcend Traffix Manager V2.0 for Windows NT offers a
choice of HTML, ASCII and printed report formats to simplify
the sharing of information, provide for customized reports and
enable the export of data to other applications. In addition, a
new scheduler function allows for report generation on a daily,
weekly or monthly basis, and user-defined data aging
maximizes storage space for past performance data. Transcend
Traffix Manager V2.0 for Windows NT also doubles the
number of supported end nodes - from 50,000 to more than
100,000 - and incorporates an open database to allow access to
information by third party applications.

"A critical challenge for managers is keeping their company's
network running reliably and efficiently. This requires
sophisticated, yet easy to use, management tools that support
rapid problem isolation and resolution, as well as deliver the
information needed for proactive planning and network
optimization," said Mark Bouchard, senior research analyst,
Global Networking Strategies, META Group, a
Connecticut-based research and consulting firm. Taking
Control of Network Traffic

Transcend Traffix Manager for Windows NT provides a
desktop-to-WAN visualization of enterprise traffic to help
network managers better understand the impact of application
deployment throughout the network. Transcend Traffix
Manager collects and correlates data from standard RMON/RMON-2
probes and embedded agents, providing a
global view of network traffic for performance management,
trend analysis and troubleshooting. Through its highly intuitive
graphical user interface, it can quickly and easily zero in on
every host and data stream in the network, allowing managers
to more easily monitor and enforce corporate network usage
policies.

"Our goals are to deliver end-to-end management of 3Com
network systems, simplify and automate network operations,
increase reliability and reduce the total cost of network
ownership," said Kathy Rocha, director of marketing for
network management at 3Com Corporation. "With Transcend
Traffix Manager V2.0 for Windows NT, we are taking a step
closer to enabling users to manage their network as a business
resource rather than an office tool."

Through its leading-edge data management and advanced
filtering capabilities, Transcend Traffix Manager can scale
seamlessly from small to large enterprises. Administrators can
use Transcend Traffix Manager to aggregate subnet data from
many devices into a single device. In addition, it can filter out
conversations below a level defined by the user, providing a
more useful set of information. Pricing and Availability

Transcend Traffix Manager V2.0 for Windows NT is
scheduled to ship on Oct. 22 and is priced at $7,995 (U.S. list
price). Current Transcend Traffix Manager V1.1 for NT
customers with software maintenance contracts will receive an
upgrade free of charge. About 3Com
