How do you know the MXi is being codeveloped with TDFX?

I don't know for sure but the guy who mentioned it has been dead-on with other stuff. He knew stuff way back like who the all the Banshee boardmakers were and the names of the boards before I could even confirm. He also knew about the Banshee delays about a month and a half ago. I think he got the info about the Media GX Mxi at ECTS.

I've taken a closer look at this little monster. With a pipelined FPU and integrated video you could have the real makings of a console. I've heard that Cyrix is licensing 3dNow! too but I don't know if it will be in the GX. Note that the Media GX Mxi isn't even socket 7. It's soldered directly into proprietary devices and motherboards so Cyrix needn't worry about compatibility, only performance. I have looked at all the current set-tops, and with the exception of Project x they all are extremely low power browsing machines. Project X is just cool hardware without any content. Seen any good voxel or ray tracing games lately?

It would appear Cyrix has a reference set-top for those that are interested. If 3dfx is indeed going this route then it's possible we'll see several vendors using the Media GX Mxi similar to this.

Here is a PDF file giving the open specs for the Mxi:

I'd appreciate some techie comments if you guys get the chance. Thanks.
