Tuesday September 29, 8:10 am Eastern Time Company Press Release New Flavor of Jam Audio CD Recording Software from Adaptec Release 2.5 Eases Integration with Other Sound Tools, Enhances Quality MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1998--A new release of Jam software for Macintosh, the award-winning CD recording product from Adaptec, makes creating high quality, professional audio CDs even easier than before. Jam 2.5's new features both simplify and improve the CD-mastering process for semi-professionals and professional musicians. ''We've taken a product that is already recognized as being extremely powerful and easy to use, and added features that musicians have requested to save them time and steps in producing professional quality audio CDs,'' said Rob Griffith, product manager for Adaptec's Software Products Group. The original Jam, introduced one year ago, enables professionals to prepare sound files for recording in audio CD format, and either create CDs in their own sound studios using CD-Recordable drives, or send the originally created audio disc image to a CD mass replication facility. Jam is the most affordable, commercial quality audio CD solution available, and provides the best mix of targeted audio tools, ease of use, and integration with other sound tools. What's New about Jam 2.5: With Jam 2.5, audio files can be imported as a CD disc image for increased integration with sound editing solutions such as Peak and Sound Designer II. Furthermore, sound editing software, such as the bundled Peak LE, can now be directly opened from within Jam. By using Jam 2.5's Normalize feature, users can easily adjust the volume of each track to the maximum level without distortion. ''Go to Time'' allows users to go directly to a specific location in a track by specifying a numeric value rather than having to fast forward to a certain point. Jam 2.5 also has a built-in meter with a clipping indicator for visually monitoring sound files to avoid unpleasant distortion caused by digital clipping. The original Jam: Adaptec Jam is engineered from the ground up to make Red Book audio-CD mastering as easy and flexible as possible. Jam includes professional-level features such as non-destructive cross fades between tracks, PQ subcode editing, audio track trimming, and the ability to add UPC/EAN and ISRC coding for professional distribution. Adaptec Jam also includes Toast Audio Extractor that allows users to extract audio tracks directly from audio CDs. Pricing and availability: Jam 2.5 has an MSRP in the U.S. of $299 and will be available in November from computer and music retail outlets worldwide, through Adaptec's online store, and direct from Adaptec at 800/442-7274. Anyone with a registered version of Jam 2.1 will be able to get a free downloadable upgrade to Jam 2.5 from Adaptec's website in November.
