Howard,

I think it depends on how much experience you already have with the topics. I found one or two chapters helpful but already knew as much as needed on the history of NASDAQ, etc, etc.

Also it appears a little simplistic in regard to the use of EDT systems and totally negligent when it comes to risk management issues. Perhaps that's because the author is affiliated with a broker.

Howard,

I read "Electronic Day Trading" quite some time ago, but I was not at all impressed with it. The writing was poor, seemed to have not been very well edited.

It also disappointed me that the book seemed to by hyping a product, Watcher software, that I believe (but am not sure) was produced by the same people, or at least they are related somehow. They tried to pretend they "found" this great software and wanted to share it with us. I found the deliberately misleading approach quite shameless, not unlike some of the posts we see here on S.I. from time to time.

The book had some good info, no doubt. And I believe a newer version was to come out earlier this year. (I read it in 1997).

Another similar book I found to be more helpful and much better written is called "The Undergrouind Level 2 Daytraders Handbook," published in 1998 by PredatorCorp, written by Jea Yu. Jay goes by the name "Inertia" in the net chatroom Day Traders Online, and is a pretty successful and highly regarded trader. I bought the book for $60 earlier this year and recommend it highly for people new to daytrading and wondering what Nasdaq Level II quotes are all about, how they are used, etc. It's got some pretty good info. Their website is located at undergroundtrader.com. Ordering info: PredatorCorp, 4113 Weller Road, Wheaton, MD 20906.

I apologize if anyone feels I am overly-hyping this book, but I thought I'd post all I knew about it here to avoid having to make further posts to provide follow-up info.

Bill

"The Electronic Day Trader" - review.

My opinion is the same as expressed by others - it's just another trading book that offers no real value unless you are a brand new trader. What is really needed is a trading book that specifically focuses on intraday equities trading, clearly outlines the do's and don't with lots of extremely detailed examples, and provides some proven and backtested strategies for intraday trading that a new trader can start off with - maybe I'll write one!

Regards,

Dave
