Judge reprimanded for rude comments dailynews.yahoo.com

ORLANDO, Fla. (Reuters) - A judge who questioned a divorcing couple about their sex life and
offered to father a child with the woman received a rare public reprimand from the Florida Supreme
Court Tuesday.

The high court summoned Circuit Judge Leonard V. Wood to the state capital in Tallahassee for the
reprimand, citing six examples of his making rude and inappropriate remarks from the bench.

''He was trying to humiliate us,'' said Gary Lieberman, who appeared with his wife, Julie
Smith-Lieberman, before Wood in 1997 for an uncontested divorce, expecting a five-minute hearing.

According to the complaint they later filed, Wood forced them to disclose details of their sex life and
urged them to stay married and have a baby.

The judge said he wouldn't mind having a child with Smith-Lieberman if he weren't already married,
according to the complaint.

Wood, 61, who was not available for comment Tuesday, did not challenge the reprimand.

''I have been at fault in my choice of words and unnecessary expression of thought,'' Wood wrote to
the state Judicial Qualifications Commission.

He said his conduct was partly due to health problems, and that he was under the long-term care of a
psychologist for stress and anger management.
