Re: "Well Intel's IA-64 Merced/EPIC a first of its kind. Right? Read it and Weep!"

EPIC--brought to you courtesy of Hewlett Packard.

Implemented poorly by Intel in Merced.

Soon to be surpassed by the HP team working on McKinley.

Dale, <Merced/EPIC a first of its kind.>
There is nothing to weep about yet. A desperate
desire to innovate is not equal to a successful
innovation. Every time Intel tried to "innovate"
it was a flop - remember iAPX432? It was also
"first of a kind". And the last as well. Very few remember
it because of the stupid idea to cast inherent software
functions in silicon. Or their brain damaged
design of memory segments in x86 - one of the reasons
for countless software bugs we all suffer from.
infopad.eecs.berkeley.edu

Merced will be no different for the same reason:
brain damaging in security of isolation.
Of course, there is a chance that the whole
world will be brought to it's knees by the gorilla
and suffocate in "explicit parallelism"
even where there is none.

If you still wonder about P-II/Pro, my opinion
remains the same: the success of PentiumPro
core is based on stolen idea of "short tick
design" from DEC.

<Mr. Ali re: So, instead of...>
BTW, you may call me simply "Dr.Chen". That will be
more correct, :-)

Regards (? I am not sure..weep? :-)
