From SVGI news release - the essence of the oops:

''These are very difficult times,'' said Papken Der Torossian, chairman and chief executive. ''We expected explosive growth in 1998,'' but many Asian economies went into recession.

Job cuts at SVG now an amazing 35% of the once 3,500 strong
workforce. SVG I think was one of the top 10 semi-equip makers in the world (the 10th) last year. Plus they are doing the R&D cuts as well.

Shane.

(Where do we go from here?)

I think if Corrigan charts the course right, LSI can win big next round. The biggest worry is current stock price. Somebody can come in and pick up the company. Biggest threat for that is IBM. It fits in with their premium technology thing, with what they are doing, with the cash if nothing else. The only thing stopping that would be the justice department.

I generally don't like to see poison pills. But in this case I feel so strongly about the company that I wouldn't mind. I hope they have that in place.
