I recently heard on tv a very smart analysis of the Japanese finacial condition. They pretty much said the root problem is that the average age of the person is 45 years old(oldest average age known in history) and that since not enough children(future workers/tax payers) that the government has no choice but to save money to fund future pensions right now since there would not be enough of a working population base in the future to fund the pension. And since older people tend to spend less on stuff that it would be very hard for them to listen to the world and spend more to get out of the recession/down turn since older people tend to keep same spending habits(Conservitive).
