Pravin,

These are awesome numbers for the Alpha.

I can't wait for the K7 as it looks like a compelling advantage over Intel.

Do you know when the k6-2+ is due to be introduced and what is improved over k6-2.

Regards,

Kash.

Interesting.

For a couple more data points, on these web pages I see:
chips.ibm.com
intel.com

PowerPC750...400MHz SPECint95 17.6 SPECfp95 12.2
PentiumII...450MHz SPECint97 17.2 SPECfp95 12.9

That alpha looks like a really nice chip.

Who makes it? :-)

Re: "In actual testing, the 575 MHz 21264 receives a SPECint95 rating of 30.1 and a SPECfp95 rating of 44.8. For comparison, a 296 MHz UltraSPARC II obtains a SPECint95 score of 13.2 and a SPECfp95 score of 18.4. The Intel Xeon is further below on the scale, with the 400 MHz version receiving a SPECint95 score of 16.3 and a value of 13.2 for floating point performance."

Pravin, let it first be said that if someone needs floating point performance and price is no object, then by all means buy the Alpha, that is when it finally becomes available. However for integer performance the Xeon is very near the top for shipping processors. In addition, it would be most enlightening if you would add the price tag to that 21264. The only numbers I have seen put a motherboard in the $30,000 range if I remember correctly (someone please provide a link if you have more accurate numbers). That should put a different perspective on comparing systems. Fact is that for integer performance, a COMPLETE 450mhz PII system provides over half the performance at less than 1/10 the cost of a 21264 motherboard alone. The AMD workstation are listed below.

Pravin - Re: 21264 Alpha, UltraSparc and Xeon -

Looks like the two CPUs made by Intel beat the UltraSparc.
