LU would probably tweak W-CDMA so as to make it backward-compatible with IS-95 though

unfortunately, I agree: the Europeans would never let it happen (look at all the splashing over KO/Orangina!)

However, I can dream, can't I?

what about pepsi trying to buy orangina? That didn't go over too well with the French, either.

Why would they buy Ericy or Nokia, anyways? Just for their mobile phone business? Is there that much money to be made in the mobile phone, rather than in the infrastructure?

I always found it hard to believe that LU would be acquiring a large company. I think they should do the Cisco strategy of acquiring small companies with bright people, instead of trying to integrate a behamouth.
