Jim,

re >Book value at some point in the next 3 years.
For those that don't know, Book Value for DELL is < $2. <

You should get someone to check your calculations. The last guy who claimed to have found an asteroid heading for us was quickly proved wrong when somebody checked his math.

I can't imagine any other cause for what would obviously be a global meltdown.

JP- Such statements make me question your sanity....

Michael Dell & crew have UPPED their projection of (annual) industry PC growth over the next 3 years- FROM 15% TO 17%....MD & crew continue to expect Dell to grow at A MULTIPLE of the market during the next 3 years...

So the question is: Should we believe MD & crew or you?

Hmmm...I wonder who has been more accurate (concerning Dell, the PC industry) over the last few months, years??

In the spring you asked, "Is Dell immune?"....You listed a bunch of problems affecting OTHER PC MAKERS....Yes, Jim...Dell was/is immune (from the problems of other PC makers)...Dell IS THE PROBLEM OF OTHER PC MAKERS (one of them, at least)..Look at the results (of Dell) since your comments last spring....

For a while, you rode the argument that Dell could not continue to trade at such a high (backward-looking PE)....You fail to mention that real investors look at things such as forward-looking PE, EVA, free cash flow, etc....and that on this basis, Dell is STILL one of the best investments around (and looking even better, vis-a-vis alternatives)....Each quarter this year, the market has allowed Dell to trade at a higher and higher PE (at sometime during the quarter)....even despite world economic turmoil.....as long as Dell delivers, this will continue to be the case....

Now, you argument has shifted to worldwide economic collapse..that somehow, this will occur, and that PC sales will be effected (during the next 3 years)........World economic collapse, now that is a more interesting (and complex) discussion (than some of your others)....I am forced to come back to this discussion, however, after I receive my new Dell Dimension (due tomorrow)....(my current, old crappy PC is rendering me ineffective).....But in short, when "crises" times such as these arrive, it is more critical then ever to be owning the best, most efficient companies in a particular industry, and to make sure that that industry's growth prospects are strong (despite the crisis)..Dell is that kind of company....

Show me data (not opinions) where PC sales are going to decline in the next months, years...and I will be more than willing to continue the debate....
