Inter-Tel, NTTI, Glocalnet and Telba Announce Expansion of Global IP Telephony Network Coverage at Fall Internet World '98 Inter-Tel CEO Steven G. Mihaylo to Present at
October 2, 1998 PHOENIX, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -- Inter-Tel.net, a subsidiary of Inter-Tel, Incorporated (Nasdaq: INTL), NTT International Corporation (NTTI), Glocalnet AB (Publ.) and Telba Telecomunicacoes Ltda will announce the expanded coverage of their global telephony alliance network at Fall Internet World '98, booth 3509, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
Based on Inter-Tel's award-winning Vocal'Net Internet Protocol (IP) telephony gateway, powered by Natural MircoSystems' Fusion technology, the alliance network sends calls over both IP networks, which bypass the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for potential savings compared to standard long distance phone service, as well as over the normal PSTN to provide truly worldwide service.
Formed in April 1998, the global telephony alliance of Inter-Tel.net, NTTI, Glocalnet and Telba has the goal of uniting their respective regional telephony networks and exchanging voice and facsimile traffic. Inter-Tel.net currently maintains seven Vocal'Net gateway sites in the United States in Phoenix, San Jose, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Reno. NTT International Corporation currently has gateway sites in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan. Glocalnet AB currently has gateway sites in London, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Brussels, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Zurich. Telba Telecomunicacoes Ltda. is developing a network in Brazil and Argentina.
The alliance IP network's footprint is being further expanded as each alliance member forms direct relationships with additional partners. Some of these new partners, who will be demonstrating the high quality alliance network at Internet World, include: Evergroup, Inc. with established gateways in six cities in Taiwan, one in mainland China and one in San Francisco; NetVoice Technologies, Inc. with seven gateway sites in Texas and Oklahoma; and Dohwa Operation Service International Co., Ltd. (DOSI) with an established gateway site in Seoul, Korea.
Ross McAlpine, president of Inter-Tel.net, Inc., said, "By offering additional IP telephony call origination and termination locations, these new relationships will extend the reach of each partner's network. By expanding network coverage, each partner will be able to offer its customers broader service at reduced prices." McAlpine will be a speaker at the Internet World conference presenting a seminar on "Developing and Managing an IP Telephony Network" at 2:30 p.m. October 5.
Internet World attendees can place IP telephony calls from the show floor. They can also see a demonstration on the Inter-Tel.net PrePayer electronic terminals and pick up a free 20 minute prepaid calling card. The PrePayer terminal provides retailers a simple and secure way to market prepaid long distance minutes and other services to customers using a credit or debit card.
At the show, Inter-Tel will also preview the next software release of its Vocal'Net carrier-class IP telephony gateway which adds real-time fax capability and enhanced voice quality. This software release incorporates H.323 call control and G.723.1 for voice compression. The release also enhances service providers' ability to manage unique rate structures, call restriction tables and administration processes, making it easier for them to process customer accounts.
In addition, Inter-Tel will introduce its InterPrise family of IP telephony products for businesses requiring as few as four ports. The InterPrise 400 will be the first in a line of IP telephony gateways designed for voice, fax and data communications across corporate IP or frame relay networks. The four-port InterPrise 400
provides network managers with a simple way to integrate multimedia communications among disparate facilities, including smaller branch offices. An analog solution, the InterPrise 400 supports subscriber interfaces for standard telephones, fax machines, voice- band modems, PBX or PSTN loop lines (FXO) and PBX E&M tie lines.
