ZP, all:

Thought this DIMM checker utility might be of interest. It's at vml.co.uk

Found it in a response to letter to Ask the Doctor in Maximum PC magazine (recommended). The letter asked how one can ensure their DIMM is really 100MHz.

"Download this nifty utility....It'll query the SPD (what's that?) on your DIMM for bank number, manufacturer, part number, serial number size type and spec. If there's no SPD you've been had/ All PC100-spec RAM should have an SPD that tells the motherboard what to set the speed for......"

My query gave me blanks for manufacturer (it says Micron on the RAM, FWIW), part number and serial number but did say PC100.

Clarence - If you go internal I purchased the Diamond 56k model a couple months ago, also after studying reviews, and it has worked perfectly. (I think it was $99 at CompuUSA and almost certainly could be mail ordered cheaper...I was in a bit of a hurry.) It uses flex technology, as does my ISP, and all connections have been at 46k since plugging it in, which I don't think is bad.
