Mark, "by holding Norris to the strictest adherence on the words and meaning of the koran, you have to hold interpretatin of the bible to the same strict adherence." I hold the bible to strict adherence, but as a whole text, in context. And anyone else that has to defend the Lord and his writings in this way, IMO should do the same thing. You can't take one verse of the bible and make a reasonable conclusion from it. You need to read the whole thing, and then form conclusions about its passages within it. What exactly do I mean? I'll tell you! God is 100% perfect. And everything he does is perfect. And his written word, the Bible, is perfect. And when we examine the bible, we need to treat it as a whole book. Not just a verse, a paassage, a chapter! As a whole book! So many are lead astray by just hearing one verse, but not examining the whole picture. I mean the context of it, in relationship to surrounding passages and chapters, and the whole bible! Its a huge mistake many make. With that being said, if God told us whether or not he approves or disapproves of slavery, I would accept it. But he does not! And I don't know what the right answer is, I wish I did. I just don't think God ever intended people to be slaves. It just seems to be not Godly. But your assumption that just because he puts rules around it, he approves of it is not scriptually based. Why am I not strictly adhering to God's words by assuming he does not want people to be slaves? And why am I not adhering to God's word, if in my opinion, he is putting rules around something, he never really ordained? Please let me know....anyone! And as far as Norris, I am treating him and his faith as he treats Christianity and mine. Do I agree with his methods? No! But the kids have to play fair now. And if one kid wants to play by certain rules, than it is only fair the other kid plays by the same rules. He treats the bible, not allowing for one assumption. So that's the way I treat the Koran. Maybe he will realize that the improper and unfair scrutiny he puts to the bible, if the same scrunity applies to his writings, will not even come close to holding up. But as to my true beliefs and my normal discussion and witnessing of beliefs and faith, I personally do allow for some type of reasonable assumption and think the flexibility should be an option. But that flexibility must be based around the bible. If the bible clearly talks about something, then that is official word. If it does not, then reasonable flexibility and assumption must be made, with the rest of the bible in mind! God Bless, Steve
