<<Ascend did not win SBC --- with a footprint in 40% of RBOC space>> Good win for NN at SBC, however it was/is an existing customer.

Yes they have good RBOC presence and this is of value. However, currently the momentum is with ASND.

<<Cisco is behind NN on the carrier class switches and the jury is still out on NN versus ASND. In your opinion how will the landscape change if LU and NN team up? >>

I think CSCO beats NN as a standalone hands down based upon the CSCO layer three juggernaut (and the new Stratacom stuff). LU and NN give CSCO some trouble here, mainly based upon LU's relationships with the carriers. ASND is still #1 here, right now.

<<Selling ACC for over $250 million CDN profit represents I believe 5 times return of capital. A move that's positioned themselves to fill gaps where needed. I agree UB was a total disaster. So too was 3Coms' purchase of USRX, or so it appears.>>

$250MM CDN profit is good, but how many $BB's were lost in potential sales of carrier gear while NN was farting around with the enterprise space - this was a resource and mindshare drain for them. Ahhhh, COMS and USRX......if COMS starts nailing VPN, VOIP, and Cable deals naysayers may eat crow.

<< I also agree it won't be NN who stings CSCO, though it could be NN
along with their as-yet-unannounced partner.>>

Which is why TM should sell out sooner than holding out on his own, as NN has lost too much momentum as an independent to succeed.

<<Incidentally, I heard yesterday Cisco's OC-48 has been pushed back. What are you hearing?>> Haven't heard this......if it's ATM OC-48 I'm sure CSCO isn't concerned, again within CSCO there is a religious war against ATM - they want the world to go pure packets over SONET. If PPP over OC-48 SONET is delayed and carrier customers are threatening to cancel orders then you have a concern to CSCO mgmt.
