Actually, Michael, a research study released last week showed that school uniforms had absolutely no affect on school violence, although it had been widely expected that they would.

And can you cite specific statistics where school voucher programs have been in effect for several years, which have solid results already? You would need to prove that children received a far better education than in public schools. Not just the few poor children who are very bright and would be readily accepted by good private schools, but for the ones who are marginal students at best. Not just a few examples, but overall grades, test scores, drop-out rates and numbers of children going on to college.

I would agree, incidentally, that there should be no violence in schools. However, in order to accomplish that goal we need to address violence in the larger society, of which our schools are simply a microcosm. Vouchers that cull a few children from public schools really have nothing to do with solving the underlying societal pathologies.
