Mentat, What version of QP do you use? If you are still using version 1, then you are lucky (as long as it lasts) because you CAN have it automagically update your data files each day as part of it's normal processing routine. I didn't realize they were not going to include that feature right away in QP2, or I would not have been so quick to upgrade. If, on the other hand, you have upgraded to version 2, then you are temporarily out of luck. Although they have promised they will make it automagic in October, you may remember also that they promised version 2 for at least 18 months before they delivered. You CAN of course export the ascii data from a list of symbols, and it does not take long. However, at this point, it will NOT merely update existing files, but, rather, overwrites them, so you have to completely re-export everything each day which is silly. I have written a simple Visual Basic program which helps me out. It will allow you to do UPDATES instead of doing it the way you have to now. I will also (when I have time) add a way to modify the data when a split takes place (for those of you who haven't realized it yet, this is another way to screw up your data...have the darn company go and split on you). Anyway, right now this little program has all my path info hard coded, but could probably be generalized pretty easily. I'm willing to modify it for you, if it would be useful, BUT: 1. we should take the details off-line 2. understand that I am in the middle of busy times, so you should consider this to be an experimental (not even beta) approach until it gets fine-tuned for you. This implies keeping your real data in a separate directory until you are certain that it is working!!! 3. be prepared for slow progress at times until 11/15 or so, by which time the QP folks may have their new ascii updater available anyway... Essentially, for now, I still have to manually start the export of the most recent data from QP2, which goes into a bunch of temporary ascii files in some directory that you set up. Then, my program takes a list of files to update along with their locations, and using the just-exported data, updates them. (doesn't do split-corrections yet) The whole process takes less than 5 minutes, most of which is loading up QP2. Let me know if this would help you out via private message. To others on this thread... in principle, this tool could be used with other data, but I don't really know if it's necessary. If you have a data source that can export ascii files, but does not automagically UPDATE your existing data, then it might be useful. However, I'm not in the programming business, so I won't be able to make MAJOR modifications to accomodate special needs. In fact, if the little package that had info posted about it just recently will work for you, then you should probably use it. No discrimination intended--I just don't have the time. Sorry. Dave
