Where do I recall reading about buggy and unreliable products before? I thought it
was on this thread less than a year ago. Comments like that, fortunately, didn't stop
me from investing in ASND then. Based on the due diligence I've performed and
am continuing to perform, such comments would not stop me from investing in NN
now.

Actually Gary, it's more than that. I was told that the architecture of the VIVID is inherently flawed. It's such a complicated piece of equipment that it's impossible to debug. Newbridge will do best to just throw this beast into the garbage heap and start all over. A pity that 4 years worth of R&D money went to waste. Perhaps Newbridge is about ready to admit face it by now.

Another difference between Ascend and Newbridge is that Ascend's TNT and 4000 were in the installed base in a major way when the bugs occured last year. Newbridge has yet to ship the VIVID in large quantities.

Actually, the 36170, Version 3.1,was recently released. In the last conference call, NN
said it was experiencing double digit sales growth for this product. A Version 4.0 and a
36177 are on the way.

This is easily explained by customers holding up purchases of their 31670's until the new release. Doesn't necessarily mean they are stealing new customers with the 36170.
