bp <<OT>> re: "Some times ya just gotta bite the bullet, sell off an investment, pay your taxes and buy yourself a house!"

Not if you can get your compatriots and their rich and politically powerful executives to pay to have someone lobby the bozo's in government to screw around with the tax laws to your advantage, rather than someone else's.

All you have to do is find a handful of scapegoats, rally a large enough group of "affected" people against them and pretty soon, you win. At least that's how it works for socialists.

Mr. K.

Mr K, bp,

And home ownership makes for a marvelous tax shelter!

I am beginning to wonder if Michelle plans to live to age 50 or over. Her obvious contempt for the older segment of our society is disturbing. Perhaps she should rent the movie, "Logan's Run" and contemplate its message.

I would say also that the AARP crowd have more than paid their dues to society in taxes and other contributions to our economy and have done their bit to raise our standard of living to its current state. Let's now allow them to enjoy in peace the fruits of their labors and look to some other source to gain personal wealth; say, something along the lines of personal achievement by one's own labors and shrewd investments.

I will repeat: There IS affordable housing in the SF Bay Area. The Muni notwithstanding, public transportation is otherwise quite good here.

Holly

Ha Ha Ha but if you all will recall.... my complaints were much more broad based than my own personal situation. Now I know this is difficult for the AARP alliance crowd to understand, but there are larger issues in taxation etc. vs. ones own personal well being. Example, companies in the area need to hire people. Pop quiz for you all here: if every 3br/2ba ranch house in the area is $1MM+, then is is more or less difficult to hire personnel? Another pop quiz question: who is better off, the retiree living in a $1.25MM house next door to Oracle who has medicare benefits + social security, or, a 100K/year 27 yr old development mgr with 2 childen that she has to send to private school, and no assurance that SS will be around once she retires.

PS you seem to have some sort of personal problem with hedge funds or people that invest in them. Perhaps some counseling is in order.
