<<The real hole in all of those market definitions is that "management" tag on the end of each category; "Network management" is like the seven blind men who come upon an elephant, and each of them has made a judgement about what they have found because each of them is touching a different part of the animal. Who knows what that bodes for the market. >>

Ah, mrknowitall, you hit a nerve here with the mention of network management. The Novell wave of NDS (directory services for management of networks) will be hitting the market with vengence over the next 3-6 months, along with their NetWare 5.0 new release. I'm very glad to here you mention that this is an apparent area of "need" in the networks right now.

Regards,

QuadK

Mr K: Thanks for your interesting valuations. I would have agreed with you except that I believe the Carriers might upset those figures by encouraging VPN's with VOIP/ATM/Frame capability.

Technically, if the RBOC's had been smart they would have had world wide multimedia VPN capability based on Fibre/ATM as the backbone . They could then franchise NSP's to provide Enterprise and Last mile fully integrated services using standard Edge switches.

Do you see any possibility of this happening and if so, how does the future of VPN's fit into the earlier scenario.

Thanks.
