The Times: WorldCom UK plan rivals BT
BUSINESS NEWS
October 7 1998

MCI WorldCom, one of the world's largest
telecommunications groups, said yesterday it would be
able to offer a complete local national and international
telephone service throughout the UK by 2000 (Raymond
Snoddy writes).

The existing MCI WorldCom service in London would be
expanded nationwide through its UK fibre-optic network.
The move will inevitably mean more competition for BT.

Doubling of the group's pan-European backbone network
to 4,290 miles in France, Germany and the UK will mean
that users connected to a public network in all three
countries will have access to the full MCI WorldCom
service.
