The same thing happened here in the US of A. Unfortunately, our courts ruled the blood suppliers of this country immune from lawsuits, despite their obvious and callous disregard for public safety. That is the reason people such as Ryan White had no legal recourse after being thusly infected with the AIDS virus--and there are (or were) many, MANY others; he is the most famous, however.

Even today, I would advise anyone contemplating surgery to arrange for a designated blood donor or--better yet--arrange for one's own blood to be stored in the event that a blood transfusion becomes necessary.
