Allen, I agree with you completely. The dual read capability of contact recording with the floppy and flying a head for high speed operation is not a simple matter (or cheap). I am assuming that they will fly the head for the 200 MB media because I can't imagine spinning the media that fast and having the head in contact.

USB would certainly be a hot item. Imation is working hard to gain share in that market while the Zip USB is not shipping.

Allen, I tend to agree... the HiFD is late already and they HAVE to get something out there. Back as late as July of this year Sony was still saying that it was going to release the internal drive FIRST and the external later. See, for example:

asiabiztech.com

<<Because the HiFD drive is intended to replace the conventional floppy disk drive, Sony will concentrate on promoting the internal model and not the external HiFD drive.>>

Allen, you-know-who touted the fact that Sony and Fujitsu were up
amidst this meltdown.
Well, they're Japanese stocks and the Nikkei was up...

Sony shares surged, along with the rest of the Japanese stock market. Japanese leaders moved closer to approving a proposal to pump public funds into weak banks, a move that would buy some time to prevent a collapse of Japan's financial system. Sony rose $5.38 to $69.75, the biggest gainer on the Wired Index.

dailynews.yahoo.com

It is highly unlikely they were up because of the HiFD announcement.
