Dan, I thank God and you for composing a post that speaks from the heart and soul of your being. Honesty of thought is the purity of heart that Jesus speaks about in the Beatitudes. I wish we could all(very definitely including me) talk and act using the Holy Spirit as our guide in all matters. I really want to stress how good you made me feel this day.

Dan, I was raised in and Assembly of God and later, after I was married, joined a Souther Baptist church and was baptised(by immersion.) I have investigated also the the Charismatic movement, Seven Day Adventist and the Berean faith that I now consider myself a part of.

I gave my life sincerely to Jesus when I was 13 but the peer pressures soon had me smoking and drinking and so on.
I totally mis-understood what I had to do as a Christian. Many, many times I prayed and even became angry with God because I thought that being saved would protect me and change me where I would have no temptations to deal with.

The rigors of making wrong choices as a prodigal son soon finally put me on the rocks and I began searching in 1980. It has been a growing up process and today I always turn to the Lord's Holy Word rather than the advise and traditions of men. I will have it no other way because I do not want to ever lose the trust and dependence that I now have in God.

Thank you so much(again) for sharing and telling me about your Church. I love Acapello also.

Have a good day in Christ.

Santiago

Interesting post, DCF. You sound more "open" than the Church of Christ folk I know. They have been so sectarian that they consider non COC people as non-Christians. I had an earnest young man once try to "convert" me. A lady I had led to Christ once was "converted" by these COC people in that they rebaptized her, telling her that she would be lost otherwise. This lady was a fine lady, but basically still spiritually illiterate.

Did you know that Ken Starr's dad was a COC minister, and very "legalistic." Ken Starr attends an Independent Church, a great Bible-teaching church. So---he survived the COC---and realized that there were other churches in the world proclaiming the gospel.

Have a phenomenal day.
