Don, I noticed that the VIX reached that level

And yes, it is an indication of a bottom of sorts -- the question is the time frame that it is valid for. I have not followed this for long enough to know the answer to that--in other words is it just a bounce or a move that could be good for a day or two.

When I see these high VIX numbers I'm reminded that, everything else being equal, it is better to be selling the OEX options than buying
