Not so fast. Quadritek makes DHCP and DNS address manamagement software. Has nothing to do with Ascend's WAN business at all! This software competes with Bay Networks' NetID which is the most popular in this category. There are perhaps hundreds of similar software packages on the market. Re: your comments on Quadritek, check out the following: xylan.com LU's been testing Xylan's products for some time now and I have to wonder why they'd buy Quadritek all by itself. Of course if it were a defensive move to keep CSCO from taking out Xylan as its own defensive move, then it makes sense. With Xylan's OmniSwitch, LU can go nose-to-nose with Cisco:xylan.com Integrated WAN access and routing Most Gigabit switches have to rely on separate routers for access to the wide area network. Xylan has integrated a wide range of WAN interfaces in the OmniS/R ( frame relay, ATM, PPP, and ISDN (to extend the high throughput of a Gigabit campus network to remote sites and Internet resources. The Omni Switch/Router is a genuine switched alternative to traditional routers. All OmniS/R modules can be equipped with Xylan's HRE-X hardware routing engine which will be available Q'1 99. Equipped this way, the switch delivers 12 Mpps of routing performance. Unlike most Gigabit switches, the OmniS/R supports the extensive features and routing protocols needed for enterprise-wide applications. It supports IP and IPX routing, up to 256,000 route entries, up to 64,000 next-hop destinations, and all of the current routing protocols needed for enterprise-wide or Internet-access applications. (For a complete list of routing protocols, see Xylan's press release titled "Xylan introduces modules, features for Omni Switch/Router.") Pat
