Pat,

I wouldn't read too much into these alliances among tiny companies--mere pawns in the data networking market. IMO, if Lucent wanted into the LAN/Campus switch market, they'd buy 3Com, not Xylan. Besides, $50M is small change for Lucent. They just wanted a DHCP software package to sell, so they bought Quadritek's.
