Lisa, I'm not that computor wiz, though I'm sure they'll show up, and answer.

But I have also wondered some of those same things. Surely if he has your full name, there are plenty of ways to get all that info. you mention, and much, much more. Quite easily.

About getting it off the address of one of your posts, or your user ID# is something else, I don't know. I would hope that SI Adm. would be very confidential about that sensitive information, and not let some wing nut go flying around saying that stuff...true or not.

Look forward to someone shedding some light on the subject. I did see that post you are talking about. Not the first I've seen, but still very disturbing. I don't trust nothin'.

No way, unless someone who knew the info provided it. There is no way anyone other that SI staff that can tell what your IP address is, or even who your ISP is unless you post an email address in your profile or some other message.

However, if you post links to images in your profile, and happen store those images on a machine that can be linked to you, that's another matter. But that is not getting the info from SI's user database - it's getting it from information that you posted.

>>there is someone claiming that he has gotten the following on a person simply because of his contact on SI.....

Lisa - the Cable modem without firewall answer is the only way I know anyone could get into their machine without some fairly sophisticated hacking. If that info is on your machine, then it is possible to go through the cable and get that (which is why I use another computer at home as a proxy servver for the cable modem and that one has firewall software, as well as a variable ip address capability).

There are places online one can pay to get that information, although the only thing an SI post would give is the mailing address if one includes that in their profile.
