This may sound a little crazy, but we all try to make heads and tails of our enviorment and human nature tends to create (or rationalizes) cause and effect relationships, whether they are approriate or not. I have always found that the exact time of the Succot holiday on the Jewish calander (Tabernacles, to all those unfamiliar with the Holiday) has always initiated a massive sell off in the market place. While a nearly swore to myself that I would sell off my positions right before the holiday (which would have allowed me to sell off CPQ at 33 and DELL in the low to mid 60's), I thought that most of the pessimism has taken effect, by discounting the asian, south american markets (I'm getting lazy with my caps, so bear with me), and soviet markets. The Fed initiated a discount rate cut of a quarter point, with another one probably on the way soon. I felt pretty stupid selling dell at 61 and having problems with my hardware preventing me from buying it back at 58-59 on Friday when dell came back at 62 11/16. I placed an open buy order at 59 on Sunday before the succot holiday thinking that what can happen (despite my promise to myself that I would be out of the market for the sukkot holiday). The rest is history...

But I havent sold out yet and am hoping for a rapid recovery.

Talk about being caught with my pants down (with apologies to Bill Clinton)...

Best of luck to all, Dell "recovered" somewhat and the futures are up.
