I bet my bottom dollar that they have shorted gold because they smell money there. I also bet that they short gold all the way down during this 2 years and ten months from just over $400 for if any one did the same, they would be quite rich by now. They who shorted gold that long and lost all their profit in Russia is now sitting on a time bomb. I bet they don't dare to cover their short position (such a large position)knowing that the fuse will be lighted once they do it. One Japanese analyst said just 5 tons on the open market will do the trick. They has to someday sooner or later unless Greenspan lend them gold.

LTCM made some bad moves...we all know that...this one is the most hilarious IMO...from Fleckenstein:

"One interesting/humorous trade that Long-Term Capital supposedly had, was short gold and long Venezuelan T-Bills. That would be one for the history books."
