there are some good and qualified candidates.

One of my favorite politicians is Barney Frank. (Conservatives, please don't skewer me for saying that. I really don't have the stomach for some of the meanness on these boards.) When I worked as a reporter in Massachusetts, I covered his district and met him a few times. He was one of the sharpest, smartest, most quick-tongued, wittiest, funniest, and most honorable persons I've ever met. Half of his constituency were west suburban liberals who were natural supporters. But the other half are very culturally conservative working and lower-middle class folks in the economically devastated textile and fishing towns of southeastern Mass. Despite his sexual preference, he has eventually become just as popular among the conservatives as the liberals. Partly it's because of his ability to bring home the bacon. But a lot of it had to do with his charisma and communication skills.

I also really liked former Gov. William Weld. He's a really down-to-Earth guy. Much more so than Sen. John Kerry Too bad the Republicans would never have him run for president. He's someone whom I believe could really unify the country.
