These "significant price increases" are on trailing edge Fast Page Mode and Extended Data Output DRAM. This is very typical for end-of-life product. Remember, the majority of current bit output is towards Synchronous DRAM. SDRAM is where Micron is the low-cost provider with their .21-micron wafer starts, not FPM and EDO.

My old Classic Pentium 166 with a Triton ONE (Intel 430FX) chipset doesn't even run FPM DRAM. It runs EDO. That was HOW MANY generations ago? 430FX -> 430VX -> 430HX -> 430TX -> 440FX -> 440LX -> 440EX -> 440BX. Seven.

The memory war is not being waged on 4Mx4 FPM DRAM. It's almost an afterthought.
