Creative Labs Chosen To Co-Sponsor Microsoft Professional Developers Conference

10:45 a.m. Oct 12, 1998 Eastern
MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Creative Technology Ltd. (Nasdaq: CREAF), the world's leading provider of multimedia products for the PC, today announced that Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) has chosen Creative to offer its PC-DVD Encore solution to the thousands of attendees at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC). The Microsoft PDC is being held in Denver, Colorado, October 11-15, 1998.

Creative will be the sole supplier of PC-DVD kits for the Microsoft PDC. Sponsored by the Microsoft developer relations group (DRG), the PDC is an informative, intensive, technical conference for the Windows NT 5.0 application programming professional. Unlike past years, where the take away materials were provided on CD-ROM, this year's conference materials will be provided in DVD format. The conference materials are free on DVD, however, attendees will need to pay a fee for the information on CD-ROM. The move to provide all conference materials on DVD-ROM further underscores Microsoft's and the industry's commitment to the DVD format.

In addition to promoting and selling Creative's PC-DVD Encore kits at Microsoft's PDC, Creative's PC-DVD solutions will be featured and offered on Microsoft's Web site, in Microsoft direct mail pieces, through MSDN news flashes and more.

"It is an honor to be chosen by Microsoft as the sole provider of PC-DVD solutions to its extensive community of developers who can truly leverage this exciting media format," said Hock Leow, vice president of the Multimedia Group at Creative. "This further underscores Creative's commitment to technology leadership and industry standard efforts in the area of PC-DVD."

"Microsoft is committed to providing developers with the tools and technologies they need to make their businesses and products successful," said Tod Nielsen, general manager of developer relations at Microsoft. "Our goal at the PDC is to show developers how they can build applications that lower the cost of development and deployment by using the rich set of services provided by Windows NT 5.0. We are pleased to have Creative Labs as a co-sponsor for the PDC."

Creative's Industry-Acclaimed PC-DVD Encore

Creative's PC-DVD Encore Dxr2 has received top honors worldwide including the prestigious Windows Magazine "Win100" award and the "World-Class" and "Best Buy" awards from PC World. PC-DVD Encore Dxr2 also garnered the "Editors' Choice" award from Computer Reseller News -- which singled out Creative's PC-DVD solution as one of the easiest upgrades to install and use, and one of the fastest DVD-ROM drives tested. "The Encore's video performance is excellent," raves c/net Gamecenter. "When all is said and done, Creative Labs' Encore kit is an exceptional value."

Creative's PC-DVD Encore Dxr2 is a compelling solution for users of the Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT operating systems. It lets users experience full-length movies, enhanced games and the expansive storage capacity provided by DVD technology on their PC. PC-DVD Encore is available via Creative's extensive worldwide network of retailers and distributors at the estimated street price of US $229.99.

Offering PC users a dramatic expansion of their systems' capabilities, PC-DVD Encore features breakthrough developments such as DynamicXtended Resolution(TM) (Dxr2), and improved sound and video playback. The Dxr2 decoder board features picture enhancement technology that gives PC-DVD Encore smoother, crisper, high-definition video playback when compared with today's DVD solutions. Additionally, PC-DVD Encore provides high-quality video and audio enabled by MPEG-2 compression and Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio output which delivers a truly immersive cinematic experience. The appeal of these capabilities extends to multimedia enthusiasts and power gamers as well as the general consumer.
