As part of the promotion, Guillemot will offer a pair of 12 MB Voodoo2 cards for a special "Power of 2" pricing of $229 (U.S.)....

So if it is priced at $229 retail I'm sure you will be able to purchase it at approximately $190 off the shelf or through catalogs. That's closer, but not quite, the price of TnT. Still no 2d....

A major part of this PR was about new drivers. However, did anyone notice their disclaimer that these are just candidate drivers? Reference drivers will be out in November. That makes me think TDFX is desperate to get some PR out. Feel free to correct me if I am underplaying the signifigance of this but I feel they are jumping the gun on the drivers (which is out of character). I know they state 60% improvements but given the state of Banshee drivers I view this as a public beta test until they can get the "reference" drivers out in November. This is speculation and classifies as JMHO.

I also think the "Power of 2" ad campaign is lame. If the campaign were started back when Voodoo2 was released *six months ago* then we would have established this product in a different light. However, Voodoo2 will be replaced after Christmas (or surpassed by competition) and then we will have to start over with something else. I can appreciate that TDFX has to clear Voodoo chips out of inventory but I think they're looking back rather than forward. How about some Banshee ads? I would gear up something sweet geared around Halloween to take full advantage of the Banshee marketing appeal. Has everyone forgotten that TDFX has the world's fastest 2d?

Let's get a picture of a kid holding a TnT board who is scared to death when he finds out it doesn't work on half of his games. We could then show a caption from the Grim Reaper saying "He should of gotten a Banshee" or something similar.

nVidia should be afraid, not 3dfx's stock holders.

Regards,
Stuart

PS. It is good to see that this PR should establish TDFX back towards the top of the price/perfomance spectrum for hard core gamers but we still need to expand our market.
