OK Gents here's the deal,

Alcatel (enterprise) data networks resell Cisco kit to corporate customers, a nice chunk of business rumored to be 300 M US a year. 12% of Cisco EMEA revenue.

Alcatel (Carrier) boys, however, sell Ascend (primarily MAX/TNT with a little ATM/FR)to telcos. Which space is Chambers and Co trying to chase?

Who have they (the telco guys) announced technology agreement with to get IP into their Telco CO switches recently?

Any wonder why Cisco are Pissed?

First, Mr Clinton is wrong. Alcatel announced the deal with ASND after Cisco and ALA determined there was no synergy in that space. Second, if both organizations are going after the same market that spells competition - not cooperation.

ALA is very smart. They could simply bleed ASND of their technological advantage and end competing with them.. furthermore in the spirit of cooperation ALA will have access to ASND accounts.

I can say no more.
