TigerPaw,..Re: I don't have the correct resources, in particular a reasonable way to get the option prices often enough to spot trends

I think the CBOE site is updated daily. Is this what you are talking about?

cboe.pcquote.com

The problem with using options that I see is that one can sell puts which is actually a bullish indicator along with buying calls. So we have only OI and volume for calls and puts but we don't know how many of the puts are sold puts, (as opposed to going long puts). Or even sold calls, so although the overall put/call ratio is still used for the S&P for bull/bear sentiment, it seems suspect to me since some who are bullish sell puts either to take an actual position if the move goes with them or to capitalize on the high premiums available when sell-offs occur.

Lee

TigerPaw, re:<<I would be more willing to believe Technical Analysis if it were based on option sales instead of past stock sales. >> Forecasting, at best, is very tricky. With respect to the stock markets, I'm not sure if any forecasting methods are really accurate. Just to many variables to consider, especially the ones that deal with peoples reaction's and sentiment.
