For those who think a 450 MHz Xeon PC is a must, you can now get one from Gateway. This may be Intel's way of dispositioning XEONS that don't work in 4-way server systems.

I'm sure AMD shareholders will remind us that nobody needs a PC with a faster processor than whatever AMD's current high end CPU happens to be.

Paul,

Like you, I am an AMD shareholder ;^) The price/performance tradeoff of a Xeon over a PII, when used in a single-processor system, is atrocious.

I assume that 1) Intel is giving deep discounts to Gateway. 2) This system is targeted at people with extra cash or a lack of common sense.

After "CPU" and before "Happens" there's one more qualifier: "....which is available in volume".
