Re: "Therefore, CPU price goes down much fast then cars and watches. There is no point to compare."

Paul isn't exactly known for using metaphors which make sense.

Maybe he'd be dumb enough to buy a desktop Xeon that might give him a 5% performance boost over a PII-450, but I don't think most people would. Not for hundreds more.

At least Paul's broken record stopped skipping long enough for him to tell us he's confident of a Gateway/AMD deal.

Ling, re: <Therefore, CPU price goes down much fast then cars and watches.>

On the contrary, Paul's analogy with cars makes perfect sense. Why would anyone want to buy a Porsche for five times the price of an Acura Integra? Is that Porsche really five times better than the Integra?

Why shouldn't Gateway offer a very high-end desktop system using the most powerful x86 processor out there? Yeah, it's not like Gateway is going to sell very many of these systems, but then again, Xeon's volumes are still miniscule compared to Pentium II and Celeron.

With this system, Gateway is targeting those who have money to spend and who have the desire to possess a computer with the most powerful x86 processor. Of course, it won't be the most powerful x86 processor three months from now, but that isn't going to stop the rich nerds from buying their toys.

<There is no point to compare.>

Don't know about you, but I sure see the point, even during these times where sub-$1000 desktops grab more headlines than the super-$4000 ones.
