Pauleron,

Do you think these could be defective Xeons that don't work on the SMP boards that Intel is offloading to Gateway.

This way they don't have to throw 'em away and can help to make their sales targets.

Could be a very smart move IMHO.

Regards,

Kash..

Paul, re: "Whoever claimed MOST PEOPLE would buy a 450 MHz XEON system?"

Nobody seriously believes that Gateway will sell a significant number of these Xeon home systems. That's why the announcement is IRRELEVANT, especially with regards to the big picture of Intel's bottom line. This is exactly what I pointed out to you in my original post on the subject, which questioned why you were so excited about the announcement that you had to post it TWICE to this thread.

Paul, this forum is not a court of law. We don't admit items into evidence; instead, we reach conclusions based on common sense. The common sense understanding of my assertion is that the market for Xeon based home PC's IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE INSIGNIFICANT. Furthermore, anyone who does purchase such a PC is (IMHO) an idiot, because they are paying up significantly for a negligible performance increase (especially on most home-use applications). Buying a Xeon-based home PC over a PII-450 is NOT like buying a Porche instead of a Volvo, because the Porsche actually offers two things the Xeon does not: a significant increase in performance and in prestige.
