It probably means that they have some important information to release at the earnings report which differs significantly from street expectations and available public knowledge about the company. At the time they booked into the conference they weren't aware of this new information. A possible piece of information that might fit in this category is the effect of SAP price cutting on PSFT sales and especially profit.
The news could be good or bad, but the market thinks it's the latter.
The news that BAAN will show a loss this quarter also isn't good news for the entire sector and this is rubbing off on PSFT. SAP has said that it's sales and profits are going to be very good, and despite this it has taken a hit. The fact is that the market has decided that Y2K will take sales away from ERP companies, and thus none of them will do well in the stock market until this perception changes.
