Paul, re: <WHERE ARE THE K7 BENCHMARKS that people have requested you provide to support your K7 claims?>

The problem with this challenge is that the AMD K7 is bound to beat the Pentium II in some benchmarks, but not others. If it isn't Winstone 97, it'll be 3D Winbench. If it isn't 3D Winbench, it will be SpecFP95. You can bet that the debates will go on and on over which processor is better, K7 or Katmai/Tanner.

Of course, none of this means jack if AMD can't execute well on the K7. Wall Street is using AMD's spotty history on new architecture rollouts as a prediction of AMD's near-term future. For AMD investors, this either means a time to sell, or a time to hold and hope for a surprise. This is in contrast to Intel, a stock which is pretty much a long.

Pauleron,

K7 looks pretty good doesn't it.

Faster bus 200Mhz vs 100Mhz for Intel.
8 Meg L2 cache vs 1Mb for Intel.
Awesome FPU compared to Xeons best.

A fully loaded 500 Mhz K7 system with 8Mb cache will blow away a 1Mb Xeon at same speeds. Oh and it will cost a whole lot less too.

The design is clearly awesome. Wether they can build 'em and ship 'em is the only question.

AMD now has a superior architecture than anything that Intel has forecast or announced for 99.

You should be very worried.

Regards,

Kash
