Newly Released Book on E-Commerce, the 'Se-Com Project,' Defines Critical Problems and Leading Solutions
Industry Experts Collaborate to Deliver E-Commerce Decision-Making Tools For Enterprise Executives
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Montgomery Research, Inc., today announced the delivery of its executive briefing book and web site on secure e-commerce, the ''Se-Com Project: Secure E-Commerce Intelligence.''
The 400-page briefing book addresses critical issues in e-commerce, from enterprise networking to online commerce and encryption. It aims to provide executive decision-makers with an expert guide to understanding the risks and opportunities involved in e-commerce implementation as it affects their businesses. The book features in-depth analysis presented for an executive-level reader, and includes profiles of leading e-commerce solutions companies. The free, online component of the project (www.se-com.com) features a fully-searchable version of the book and hyperlinks to web sites of contributing analysts and companies.
The list of over 60 contributors to the project includes: Jim Barksdale, Walter Forbes, DeLoitte&Touche, KPMG, Ernst&Young, Booz-Allen Hamilton, Microsoft, AT&T, Compaq, Cisco Systems, SAP, PeopleSoft, Forrester Research, Hewlett Packard, and the Group. The five major areas covered by the project are: E-Business; Networking; Online Commerce; Financial Transactions; and Loss Prevention. The book was distributed by Montgomery Research on September 14, 1998, to its database of Fortune 5,000 company executives, consultants, integrators, government agencies and members of leading information technology associations.
''Barriers to electronic commerce's full potential exist in technology, business practices and policy areas,'' wrote Harris Miller, President of the Information Technology Association of America. ''Because many of these barriers are like links in a chain, they must be addressed simultaneously, else the weakest link cripples the performance of the whole chain. Detailed discussions of these barriers are presented in this publication.''

E Commerce getting alot of attention lately.

Ericsson Provides One-Stop-Shop for Secure E-Commerce (15 Sep 98)
For more than 100 years Ericsson has been making history as a leader in the telecommunications industry. Starting with our expertise in wireline telephony more than 100 years ago, our ongoing commitment to strategic investments in R&D has created strong leadership positions for Ericsson in virtually all major telecom technologies, including wireless networks, mobile systems, and cellular phones.
Today Ericsson is committed to demonstrating its leadership in a new worldthe Internet. As the telecommunications, computer and media industries converge within this new world, our customers can rely on us to provide total solutions with our products, systems, and services. Ericsson has firmly set its sights on making history once again in the world of Internet services, particularly in the development of total e-commerce solutions.
One-stop-shop e-commerce solutions to Ericsson mean just that one stop. It means providing products and services for both enterprise customers and network operators alike. Whether you're a large airline wanting to offer in-flight shopping, a small clothing designer wishing to expand your markets, a local ISP wanting to develop an e-commerce service for your customers, or a large cable operator planning to link e-commerce into your video-on-demand service, we have a solution for you. It also means providing the backbone and access network design and implementation, as well as Web site design and navigation, applications development, secure transaction services, hosting and systems integration elementsall in one stop.
Ericsson's e-commerce offerings begin with robust, fault-tolerant and highly secure network infrastructure. We have expanded our product line to include ATM and label switches, giga-routers, and access servers. Our recently introduced IP@Service platform acts as an important link between network infrastructure and value-added applications and services by providing for security, charging, service management, service brokering, and resource management. In addition to providing a secure infrastructure for e-commerce services this platform supports intranet/extranet services, multimedia, IP telephony, and third-party applications.
Another important element of Ericsson's e-commerce offering is our Internet Professional Services. Their mission is to design, develop, deploy, and support total customer value-based solutions. We have extensive experience in the electronic commerce area, including having built and implemented a commercially viable shared e-commerce service supporting customers in both retail and government. We have worked with and offer a variety of e-commerce products, including OpenMarket's Transact, LiveCommerce and ShopSite products, Interworld's Commerce Exchange, iCat Commerce Suite, Intershop, Microsoft Commerce Server, and CyberCash. We also work with SET standards and products, including those from Trintech Group, IBM, and Verifone. Our capabilities range from initial consulting to building high-end, customized commerce-enabled sites featuring all the necessary links into back-end transaction engines and hosting.
The most important element of Ericsson's e-commerce offering is our ability to "future proof" your investment. Our systems are open and highly scalable and will allow you to expand as needed and incorporate the latest technology as it becomes available. We are creating the future in our R&D facilities around the world and have high-tech test beds and leading-edge development projects in progress at our Ericsson Cyberlab facilities located in Menlo Park, California and New York City. Our wireless expertise has enabled us to combine Smart Cards and cellular phones with back-end transaction systems allowing anyone to purchase anything, anytime, anywhere. If you think what we're doing today is amazing, wait till you see tomorrow.
