<<In this thing, he starts "waxing eloquently" on wireless telecommunications; how they made a lot of money already in a great company's stock, and they have another great recommendation for the future.

Imagine my surprise upon learning that ERICY was the great previous (and still being held and recommended) pick.

(The identity of the future pick necessitates "biting" on at least a "trial" subscription). (But, it seems clear that it is not Qualcomm).>>

Jon: I'll bet that J.D.'s top new pick is CWP - Cable & Wireless, PLC. Recently completed purchase of all of MCI's internet op's to satisfy requirements of Wcom/MCI merger, player in sat's and major undersea fiber op's, owns > 50% of HK Telecomm, good connections in China. Just a strong hunch. ...Tim

Jon, I too received that worthless junk mail this week, I also received pretty much this same item about six months ago! I'm glad you posted for others to see. Thank you.

Jon:

I have received numerous pitches from these guys over the years. Your analysis is correct. The reports always glow over some company they had been insightful enough to pick years ago and made tons of money on. (strangley enough <gg>) The hook is buy the trial and see who they are picking now. I think one I got some years ago was pushing Sunbeam because Chainsaw Al had been there for some time and the earnings were poised to take off. Nuff said.

Jon..In re:
Ericsson's commitment to R & D -- once scorned by Wall Street -- has made it the
clear leader in cellular technology ... with a proprietary operating system, called
TDMA, that is fast becoming the world-standard, as VHS became the standard for
VCRs.

I received the same 'mail' several months ago and thought the same things you probably did until I also got to the above paragraph. This guy is way out of it or he had a bunch of these letters left over from the early nineties and thought he'd save a few bucks. Of course, those not as smart as we might have been enticed into a subscription.(ggg). luck K

Actually, Ericy, Nokia, Lucent et al. all have access to TDMA. In fact, TDMA/GSM has become a de facto standard around the world. I would agree with that statement.

I was thinking a little bit at work (Yes, I know that is dangerous), however the rights one is entitled to with a patent might change in the future. For example, Intel has covered their chip (and architecture) called the Pentium II with patents and trade secrets. What is interesting, however, is that the FTC is suing Intel for Anti-Trust for (in my words) "not letting anyone else play". Therefore, AMD (one of Intel's competitors) has to develop not only a uP, but also the architecture surrounding the uP. I am all for patents and believe it is a company's choosing whether to license them, or not. I find it fascinating that a company can get in trouble for not licensing their patents.
