David and all: Article with some information about new competition for Platinum.
news.com
"And Platinum will need all the strength it can muster to hold off the competition, which includes huge players like the $3.6 billion German giant SAP, and other marquee names like Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Baan."
Maybe this is the reason PSQL has dropped from a high of $27.
Do these software giants put out software that competes with DataWorks' manufacturing software? Maybe this is why they merged.

David says: "Hmm. So was the co. lying (as they all do) when it said it was unaware of any reason for the recent drop its shares?"

David, I was struck with the same reaction -- in fact I may have a stronger reaction since I am actually quite angry at the CEO (Klaus) having made such a statement back in September. He knew full well what was going on.

So, I now have good reason to doubt management's credibility. Normally, I would dump a stock at the first signs of such dishonesty, but at the current price, it seems only prudent to hold. However, I will be more susupicious of management and will re-evaluate this holding on an ongoing basis.

That said, it seems this acquistion makes business sense, even if PSQL overpaid and will suffer in the short term for it.
