Based on that reading, it does not sound like JMAR was over-
promising. Consider that it takes months to print the annual
report. So that means at the beginning of 1997 they were
anticipating taking first orders by the end of the year. Here
we are about 3/4 through 1998, with some hindsight. JMAR may
well already have some orders in hand, for all we know. If
JMAR was expecting orders by end of 1997, that suggests they
would hope to deliver by mid 1998. If they deliver the first
order by the end of 1998, that puts them off only half a year,
which actually isn't that bad for a new product line. How long
have people been waiting for Windows NT 5? Doesn't seem to
scuttle MSFT. So I think some people have had unreasonable
expectations in as much as expecting no delay whatsoever one
hoped for expectations is certainly too great an expectation ;-)

I finally got the tape of the conference call. Here's a little more info about Britelight lasers:

Currently, carbon dioxide lasers are used to drill holes, and the minimum size they can drill is 10 microns. Britelight can drill holes 1 micron in size. Britelight gives more energy per pulse and a shorter wavelength. The systems will sell for $300,000 to $400,000.

Also, regarding JSI, some of the fabs they have established relationships with are Siemens (Germany), Alcatel (France), and IMP.

JMAR will be at an AAEE (?) conference in San Diego on Nov. 11-12.
